Faith & Healing: Jesus’ Healing

Some might doubt the stories of faith healing done by Jesus. Some might doubt that he has the power to ease our own mental health struggles. Yet I believe that He does have that power, not just because of my faith, but because of science.

The Bible tells us that you don’t need the four walls of a church to experience God’s grace. “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20). Our connection in His name brings him closer to us, but also closer to one another. This is what we need for our faith, yes, but also what we needed for Jesus’ healing power to touch the darkness of our mental illness.

Because those demons, the demons of mental illness, they like to isolate us. They like to keep us in the dark. Yet when two or three or more gather in His name, the fellowship fights back against that isolation. It fights back against the darkness. It helps heal our mental illness.

Some might argue that any social gathering would combat the isolation and that that is what helps heal us. Yet when we gather in his name, it is His power that brings us together in my opinion, and it is that power that I believe heals us. Again some might say it is the gathering that helps and that the reason doesn’t matter, but that is their belief. What we do and why we do it matters and when we gather in His name, I believe He is present to help heal us.

I say this because it is something I have experienced. It is something that has been an important part of my recovery. I say this not to proselytize, everyone can and should believe in what makes sense for them.

This is simply what makes sense for me. And I am thankful to God for that.
