Hey all, I’m back after a little time away from writing. Much of that time was spent with family, but some of it was simply spent recharging my batteries. And I can tell you, sometimes that is better than the best therapist or the best medication possible.
In this cash-and-carry world we live in, our value seems to sometimes be measured by our productivity. But, my 11-month old has no productivity and she is the most important thing in the world to me. We are people, not parts in an engine. Yes, productivity and earning a living is necessary, both from a financial point of view and also for our own sense of accomplishment, but that doesn’t mean it is what is most important about us.
No, what is most important is instead us. It is our unique personalities. It is our interactions with those around us. And since we are the most important, it is the crucial that we take time to take care of ourselves.
No one else will do it for us. Sometimes self-care can be as simple as taking a few minutes to get a glass of water and a few quick breaths. Sometimes it is putting away our work to work on improving our own mental health. It means re-evaluating what is important to us.
Over the last couple years, I have generally been pretty consistent about posting on this site. And there are many benefits to that. However, it can also create anxiety and take my attention away from other things that I want to be focused on. So I will still be updating this site, but I will also be taking more breaks. And so should you. It is good for the soul. It is an investment in the most important thing in your life, which is you.
So in other words, I’m back (to remind you to take a break).
