Pulling Each Other Out of the Darkness

It is sometimes suggested that I shouldn’t be so open about my battle with mental illness. It is sometimes suggested that some people might not want to hear that. Well, they don’t have to listen. Yet I know, having walked in the darkness before, that my dark tale might be just the thing to pull someone else out of the darkness.

Yes, it is therapeutic for me in many ways to shine a light on the darkness of my mental illness. Writing and sharing my story lightens the load for me a bit. Yet the best outcome from sharing our dark tales is the chance to pull others out of their own darkness. Because we have to remember that it is okay to battle. It is okay to not be okay all the time. However, you don’t have to fight alone.

And sharing stories helps in so many ways. Not only does it help others realize they are not alone, but it also helps society realize how many people battle mental illness on a daily basis.

And the best part? The best part is when the dark tales become tales of joy. Tales of connection. When they become tales of overcoming our demons, overcoming our mental illnesses and the lies they like to share, that is such a welcome sight.

So if you are battling in the darkness, know that you are not alone. So many of us have been there before and survived. And we can help you survive too. And if you want to help by sharing your own dark tale, it is always welcome on this site. So take care Dark Tales community, have a safe self-care Saturday and Sunday and we’ll see you back again next week for more dark tales.
