This era of COVID is weird, and not just for people battling mental illness. It seems like we have all the time in the world now that we are all stuck at home. Honestly, is there a reason we aren’t all coming out of this experience with spotless houses while being in the best shape of our lives? And the answer is yes, absolutely yes.
What so many who haven’t battled the beast of anxiety before are just discovering is that anxiety is freaking exhausting. It is exhausting as hell. So it is okay if you don’t get everything on your to-do list done each day. You are surviving. And you know what I was thinking about today? That is amazing.
For those of us who battle demons in shadows, haunting us in ways that are painfully intimate and dangerously real, the fact that so many of us continue to push those demons back to the shadows for another day is amazing. And that strength, I believe that if we can share it, would be so contagious. It would let those who might be teetering over the void know that it will be okay. It would let those who are struggling now amid these strange times know that it will be okay.
The darkness will pass.
And if you are waiting for that darkness to pass, you are doing something amazing. And if you get to the rest of your to-do list, that is great, but if not, there is no shame in that because you accomplished the most important thing. You survived. And tomorrow will be another chance to be productive.
So relax if you need to. Put your feet up if you need to. Lie down if you need to. Everything else can wait.
And as always, thanks for reading.
P.S. along the lines of sharing the strength of survival, I would love to have some guest posts popping up on this page, so if you are interested, drop a comment or send me a message through the contact page. I would love to hear from you.
