Another week is rolling in and that means another Medication Monday coming your way. This week we are talking about the antidepressant Trintellix (Vortioxetine).
Trintellix belongs to the class of drugs known as Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs), and like other SSRIs acts by restoring neurochemical balance in the brain.
Also like other SSRIs, it comes with a host of potential side effects. These side effects can include nausea, constipation, vomiting, dizziness, and changes in sexual ability including a decreased interest in sex.
While you should let your doctor know if you experience any of these symptoms while taking Trintellix, you should also follow your doctors advice. They will have prescribed this medication for a reason, and the medication’s ability to improve sleep and mood might offset the side effects listed above. If you do decide to come off this medication, you should do so in accordance with your doctor’s advice, since coming off this medication suddenly can create additional problems.
