This past holiday season I had lots of time with family. And while there were times that the noise and festive gatherings were a bit much for my social anxiety, it truly was a blessing.
It was a blessing because family are terrific at challenging the lies of mental illness that tell you that you are worthless and unwanted. And close family can be great to open up to about your mental illness because rather than rejecting you, they will usually reject the lies of your mental illness.
And family can be a lot of different things. It can be traditional blood and in-law relatives. It can also be close friends. In this digital age, it can even be support groups you find and connect with online (I have that type of family as well.)
One of my goals is for 2020 that I didn’t include in my New Start post from a couple days ago was being more grateful for the blessings in my life. And so I am doing that here with family. And I hope you can do that too because I bet you have your own blessings, whether it is family or friends or hobbies that you are good at or whatever.
And as always, thanks for reading.
