Medication Monday: A Year in Review

It is the final Monday of 2019, which means it is time for the final Medication Monday of 2019. And while it might seem silly to do a year in review for something that only started several months ago, that is exactly what I am going to do. Even though I don’t have a full year, this is a natural time to look back and reflect.

This series started as an educational tool meant to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health medication. Yet as I went, I think I was the one who learned the most. The research revealed just how many medical tools there are for people battling mental illness and also how far we still have to go. Many of the medications work by acting on levels of neurotransmitters in the brain, but beyond that, there is still so much we don’t know. And as I discussed in my psychedelics post, there are exciting developments on the horizon.

I do believe that the 2010’s changed the way we think about mental illness. And with any luck, the renewed focus on these ailments will lead to new medications being developed and reported on by me in 2020.

So thanks, as always, for reading and stay tuned in 2020 for more Medication Mondays.
